Vermont Humanities speaker, Amanda Gustin, will be speaking at the Roger Clark Memorial Library (Pittsfield) on September 21st, at 6:00 PM. Amanda's talk will be on "Justin Morgan's Horse: Making an American Myth.
All Morgan horses today trace their lineage back to a single horse: a mystery stallion named Figure, owned by singing teacher Justin Morgan in the late 18th century. But who really was Figure and what stories have people shared about this man and horse?
Exploring the story of the first Morgan horse is complicated and fascinating, and is tied up with the idea of Vermont identity, the relationship between humans and animals, the creation of American myth, and much more.
If you plan to come, please call or email the library…..802-746-4067 or pittsfieldvtlibrary@gmail.com. Hope to see you on the 21st of September.
