The WDEV Radio Rangers began as a radio band in 1986. They played on Saturday mornings for a 15-minute live show sponsored by Blue Seal Feeds, emulating the live bands that played shows every day on WDEV from the 1930s to the 1950s. The WDEV Radio Rangers Show ran for 26 years on WDEV.
Now known simply as The Radio Rangers, the band's "country style" is as diverse as the people playing it: Danny Coane with his famous rhythm guitar, 5 string banjo and stylish vocals; Dave Rowell's spot-on bass playing and wonderful lead and harmony vocals; Jim Pitman's endless supply of tasteful leads and licks on his pedal steel and dobro "hound dog" guitar; and the ever multi talented Colin McCaffrey, whose voice and electric guitar leads impress everyone. All these members are born and raised native Vermonters.
Their vintage country material, western swing, bluegrass, novelty songs, original works and a smattering of other genres have entertained audiences for more than 30 years. Sit back and let these veteran musicians transport you to an earlier, sweeter time.
