Police Commission Meeting

Past event
Aug 23, 2022, 6 to 8 PM

The Police Commission invites the community to attend its monthly meeting on August 23, 2022. The meeting will be hybrid and held in Contois Auditorium. The zoom link for the meeting for those who cannot attend in person is: https://zoom.us/j/98425187659

At this month's meeting, the Commission will be discussing and voting to approve its FY22 Annual Report, documenting the work the Commission has done to serve as the community oversight body of the Burlington Police Department (BPD). The Commission will also hear from its attorney on the new BPOA contract regarding the role of the Commission in oversight.

Commissioners will report on progress made revising police policies and directives, with input from the public and community partners.

Of particular importance is the complaint policy. The Commission receives and advises on all complaints filed regarding BPD. We take this work very seriously and remind the community that the online complaint form can be found here: https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/Police/BPDComplaintSubmission. Commendations are also welcome and can be submitted here: https://www.burlingtonvt.gov/Police/CommendationForm .

In order to improve the complaint process, the Commission will be seeking input from those who filed complaints in FY21 and FY22. The survey will be forthcoming within two weeks. The goal is to learn from that input and improve the process so that it meets the needs of the community.
