Our friends at the Vermont Garden Network are organizing tours of collective gardens across the state, and on Sept 10th we'll be at Folsom!

Join us September 10th to tour the newly revamped Folsom Learning Garden, ask questions and participate in gardening/culinary preparation with VGN's new SNAP funded mobile garden classroom.

Started in 2009 by a group of parents with support from VGN, the Ben & Jerry's Foundation, and local donors, the Folsom Learning Garden was created as an outdoor classroom and learning lab where students and community members can come together to develop self sufficiency skills, deepen our appreciation for food and farms, and grow food for ourselves and our neighbors in need. The garden is maintained by a team of local volunteers, students, parents, teachers, and the staff at South Hero Land Trust.

What's a collective garden? VGN defines them as such: "Collective gardens, also sometimes known as "cooperative gardens" or "community farms," are communal growing spaces where gardeners share the work of planting, tending and harvesting in one large plot together, differentiated from the traditional individually-tended community garden "plots." Collective gardeners may be growing for themselves and their families or volunteering their time to share the food with neighbors or local food security support organizations, educational efforts or other endeavors.
