What is Art? Free Lecture at the Stowe Free Library

Past event
Sep 15, 2022, 6 to 7:30 PM

Have you ever thought to yourself, "I could do that!" when looking at a work of abstract art in a museum or gallery? Or maybe you've wondered why collectors would pay millions for artworks that seem simplistic, bizarre, or just plain ugly? It is sometimes tempting to think that art is just "in the eye of the beholder."

But, by imagining art history as an ongoing conversation, Champlain College Professor David Mills explores ways of encountering art as more than just subjective preference. This highly visual presentation provides new ways to interact with what we find in museums and galleries. Join us Thursday 9/15 at 6pm. This event is Free and open to the public.

This is a Vermont Humanities Council event hosted by Stowe Free Library and sponsored by The Friends of Stowe Free Library. If you have any questions please call the library at 802-253-6145
