The 9th Annual Cycle 4 CMT fundraiser heads back to Charlotte, Vermont on August 28, 2022. In the past eight years, the event has raised $1.7 million for research in support of finding a cure for Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (CMT), a hereditary nerve disease that affects approximately 3 million people worldwide including 250+ Vermonters.
The disease kills the long, or peripheral, nerves to the hands and feet. As the nerves die, the muscles around them follow, leading to loss of function and issues with balance. CMT is currently incurable, but recent dramatic advances in genetics, coupled with vigorous fundraising, have brought the goal of a cure within sight.
The in-person event takes place at the Old Lantern in Charlotte on Sunday, August 28 with a morning of cycling (available routes - 40, 25, 15 or 6.5 miles) followed by a guaranteed good time at an afterparty featuring live music, delicious food, refreshing drinks and a silent auction. Participants can earn eye-catching, quality swag like Cycle 4 CMT Trucker Hats, water bottles, T-shirts, Louis Garneau Cycling Jerseys and Leg Warmers, North Face Fleece Jackets and more. The goal is to raise $300,000 for CMT research.

Event founder Chris Ouellette, Shelburne VT resident, was inspired to start the Cycle 4 CMT by his nephew, Yohan Bouchard, who was diagnosed with CMT at the age of 7. He explains, "I watched Yohan's ongoing battle with CMT from being an active kid enjoying snowboarding, walking, and hiking to abandoning these activities altogether due to the complications of his CMT. My love for him drove my determination to find a cure for this disorder." He conceived the event as a way to give individuals with CMT the opportunity to experience the outdoor activities that define Vermonters and their culture.
