It's time to celebrate the first project completed as part of Northfield's VOREC grant: restoration of the Slate Avenue trail. A collaboration with Norwich University, this work was performed by Apex Trailworks of Braintree, Vermont and made possible by funds received through the Vermont Outdoor Recreational Economic Collaborative.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially celebrate the restored Slate Avenue Trail will take place on Saturday, August 27 at 2:00. Parking is available at the Brown Public Library. We will meet at the gate at the end of Slate Avenue.

Two guided hike options after the brief ceremony are :
continue on the Slate Avenue trail to the pond and back; about 3/4 of a mile round trip
continue to the junction of the Paine mountain trail and follow this into Cheney field and back via Byam Avenue.
