The Calais and East Montpelier Historical Societies will meet at the Robinson Sawmill in Kents Corner, Calais, on Monday, Aug. 15 at 5:00 p.m. It will be a Brown Bag Supper, so bring what you wish to eat and drink, and bring a chair.
There will be a presentation about the Mill, including its past history and current update. We hope to be able to share a DVD of the last time the Mill ran in 2009. The Sawmill was built in 1803 by Joel Robinson, and was operated by water power until the early 1900's. The early settlers were then able to acquire boards to build buildings, i.e., The Old West Church, rather than the log cabins they had been living in. There will be a lot more, including the upgrades during the past few years.
In case of rain, a reservation has been made at the Calais Town Hall, so we will still be able to gather and eat and listen. It is possible to drive up level with the mill from the road if helpful for accessibility. The meeting will be on a grassy lawn area. Please contact Gail Graham for questions GailGra@msn.com
