Please join the Calais and East Montpelier Historical Societies at the Robinson Sawmill in Kents Corner, Calais, on Monday, August 15 at 5PM. A presentation about the mill will include its past history and a current update. We hope to be able to share a DVD of the last time the mill ran in 2009. The sawmill was built in 1803 by Joel Robinson and was operated by water power until the early 1900s. The early settlers were then able to acquire boards to construct buildings, ie., the Old West Church, rather than the log cabins they had been living in. Upgrades that have taken place during the past few years will also be discussed.
This will be a Brown Bag Supper, so bring what you wish to eat and drink and bring a chair.
In case of rain, a reservation has been made at the Calais Town Hall, so we will still be able to gather and eat and listen.
