Join us for "In Gratitude and Praise: A Shape Note Musical Service" at the historic Union Church of New Haven Mills on August 21; donations to benefit the historic church.

Shape note is the original community sing! Learn about this vibrant musical tradition popular before the Civil War, which is still thriving in parts of New England, and sing along with a musical program designed to uplight and inspire you. No training or musical ability is necessary.

Rev. Abigail Diehl-Noble will open the service with prayer; David Rosenberg, director of the Middlebury Shape Note singers, will offer a brief history of shape note in Vermont, and then the group will sing a series chosen to reflect the themes of gratitude and abundance.

A collection will be taken to support the restoration of the Union Church, an 1851 Meeting House in the Greek Revival style. The church is listed on the Historic Register. No longer used for regular religious services, the building serves as a community gathering and performance space, and is slowly being restored through community efforts.

The Union Church of New Haven Mills is located at the intersection of River Road and East Street. For more information, email pastornewhavenchurchvt@gmail.com or call or text 802-282-6944.
