"The Search for Vermont Samplers" Program at the John Strong Mansion in (6656 VT RT 17) Addison on Saturday, August 13 at 1:00 PM
Presented by Michele Pagán and Ellen Thompson
For more than 10 years now, there has been a nationwide hunt for made-in-America samplers - needlework made by American school girls.
The search has finally come to Vermont, where we will document these historical treasures now held by museums, historical societies and in homes throughout the state. A series of Sampler Identification public events are planned. Volunteers will be needed for these statewide events, which are yet to be scheduled. Our speakers will share more about this exciting project and how it can help us tell the stories of samplers and their makers. The http://www.SamplerArchive.org website shows the progress and quantity of samplers nationwide which have been documented thus far.
This program is free and open to the public. In addition, tours of the John Strong Mansion/Museum will be free that day. Tours are offered from 11:00 - 1:00 and again from 2:00- 4:00.
