Join the Morristown Centennial Library and Noyes House Museum in reading Lila & Theron by local author Bill Schubart. Lila & Theron "examines the depth and triumph of the human spirit, immersing us in a world where neighbors and nature are the gifts and love endures and survives great hardship." Set mostly in Elmore's very own Hardwood Flats, this story follows Theron from his difficult birth, through his schooling in Elmore and at People's Academy in Morrisville, and into his long and loving life with Lila farming their land in Hardwood Flats. This short novel captures the history of our area through much of the twentieth century, and shows beautifully how much can change in the course of a life, and what endures.
A great read for anyone interested in local stories, or anyone looking to escape into a tale of enduring love through the hardships inherent in living. If you live or work in Lamoille County, this book is worth a read. Multiple copies are available at the MCL.
We are excited to have the author, Bill Schubart, join us for a discussion about the book on Wednesday, September 14 at 6pm at the library. Bill is a well known local writer who has published many novels and collections of short stories, including The Lamoille Stories I and II, Fat People, and The Priest. He is a regular commentator on Vermont Public Radio and writes a bi-weekly column for VTDigger.org.
Bill will talk about his inspiration and process in writing the book, share readings and stories, and take questions. We encourage you to bring your own local stories or connections to share. Noyes House Museum will be joining us with historical objects and archives that connect to the place and time of the book. This should be a fun collaborative event filled with stories, history, and connection between neighbors. Join us!
