Last July a project I proposed was one of 9 ideas- out of 173-, selected by the Luc Hoffman Institute, IUCN Commission on Environmental, Economic and Social Policy (CEESP), and Impact Hub to be part of The Future of Conservation NGO's Innovation Challenge.
The idea is called Young Stewards of Migratory Birds Ecosystem and is a project that aims to build a more just, equitable, and sustainable future by motivating young people to protect the different ecosystems along migrating bird flyways. The idea lies in the intersection of environmental conservation and mental health as it places the psycho-social needs and potentials of rural adolescents and young adults at the center of the design of educational, communicational, and activism experiences.
The project, soon to be materialized, will connect young people from two rural communities around the conservation of migratory birds: Santo Domingo, in the Venezuelan Andes, and Roxbury Vermont, in Eastern U.S.
The idea brings together these grassroots organizations: @FundaciónCultivar & @SelvayNiebla in Merida, Venezuela AND
@driftfarmsteadvt and our fiscal sponsors @hermanosporlaSalud in the United States.
On Thursday, August 11th!! Misse Doe Axelrod and I will be together in Roxbury Vermont celebrating this new partnership project with a casual Venezualan dinner/fundraiser.
Funds raised will support the Venezuelan side of the project.
