Artisans Hand craft gallery will feature Burlington basket weaver Alexa Rivera during Montpelier Art Walk on Friday, August 5 from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. The artist will demonstrate her process and have a selection of work available for purchase.
Alexa has been weaving since she was 10 years old, growing up in Poughkeepsie, NY. She started with needle and thread bead weaving and would help her older classmates with threading their needles.
Basket weaving is one of the widest-practiced crafts in all of human history. According to Alexa, "People have used baskets for harvesting food from their gardens, farms, and woods, for gathering tools from their good earth, for foraging medicines, and for the simple yet powerful ritual of collection."
Artisans Hand is located at 89 Main Street at City Center, Montpelier. This event is free and open to the public.
