On Saturday June 14, 2014, Senator Benard Sanders will officially open the renovated Barnes Camp in Stowe to the public. This historic building has been undergoing renovations for over a year. The building will welcome visitors and residents to the Smugglers’ Notch State Park and Scenic Highway, and will contain revolving exhibits on the history, geology, and ecology of the Smugglers’ Notch area. The Grand Opening event will begin at 1:45 pm and is open to the public. Barnes Camp is located on the Mountain Road (Vermont Route 108) in Stowe. Additional information about Barnes Camp and the Smugglers’ Notch Area can be found at www.friendsofsmugglersnotch.org.
The unique project is a collaboration between Stowe Mountain Resort, the Vermont Agency of Transportation, the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks, and Recreation, Green Mountain Club, the Friends of Smugglers’ Notch, and the Lamoille County Planning Commission. We hope you will join us for the celebration and a self-guided tour of the new Visitor Center and its exciting 'green technology' features.
