RIPTON OUTDOOR SPORT AND RECREATION HISTORY. At 7:30 PM on Tuesday, August 2, at Ripton Community Church in Ripton village, Norm Tjossem will present a talk sponsored by Ripton Historical Society describing the history of outdoor sports and recreation in Ripton and its environs. His presentation will be illustrated with photos, showing some of the breathtaking beauty of this northern section of the Green Mountain Forest which has made Ripton a magnet for outdoor enthusiasts since Joseph Battell established Bread Loaf Inn in 1866. Some of his topics include alpine and Nordic skiing, the Catamount and Long Trails, Robert Frost Interpretive Trail and Wayside, the "Trail Around Ripton," Spirit-in-Nature Trails, Wilkinson and Water Tower Trail systems, and Robert Frost Mountain. Norman Tjossem is vice president of the Ripton Historical Society.
