A DOCUMENTARY ON THE LIFE AND TIMES OF LOCAL LEGEND,
FLOYD VAN ALSTYNE
Wednesday July 27, 2022, 5:30 pm at the Sharon Historical Society
At the age of 102, Floyd Van Alstyne is a force of nature. WWII veteran, farmer, logger, maple syrup producer, and, until a few years ago, the oldest licensed commercial truck driver in the country. And he is still going strong.
Using archival photography, live action footage and extended interviews with Floyd, he tells his own story vivid, salty and full of dry humor – growing up in Barnard, life in logging camps, going to WWII (Canada, Africa, Italy), operating his sawmill and making maple syrup at the Van Alstyne Farm in East Barnard.
The film maker is Sharon resident, Neil Goodwin, documentary producer for Public Television through his company Peace River Films.
Bring something to share for our potluck dinner. We will provide plates and cutlery. There will be a very brief business meeting after the potluck as is our tradition to hold a public member meeting to elect the SHS officers who will continue bringing you the history of Sharon.
Neil Goodwin will join us. We have invited Floyd as well and hope he will be able to be with us as well.
