On Saturday, June 14th from 10-2:00, the Fletcher Historical Society will be hosting Wanamaker Restoration of Burlington Vermont. Ron Wanamaker and Amy Mentes will present a public demonstration of how to disassemble and restore one of the original windows of the Fletcher Historical Society Building (FHSB).

This presentation culminates several years of a very successful fund raising project to restore all windows in the FHSB. Major and supporting donors to the fund raising will be recognized at the event.

The center, main floor, roadside window will be removed by Ron and Amy and placed in a steamer to soften the window glazing. The glass panes will be carefully removed and prepared for reinstallation after paint stripping and refinishing of the windows back at the Wanamaker shop on Kilburn Street in Burlington. During the demonstration the sash weights will be uncovered and reconnected to new brass chains to prepare for the reinstallation of the window in several weeks.

We will start promptly at 10:00 and the work will continue to 2:00 when temporary painted plywood sheets will be applied to the sash opening. Remember, if you see the plywood up on the FHSB window opening it is not because of vandals…it means that the first of 13 windows in the FHSB is being restored! During the workshop food will be available. We hope to document all the demonstration with pictures and video.
