How to Avoid Dull Knife Shaming

As a local knife sharpener, this summer I've noticed an uptick in Dull Knife Shaming or DKS. Yes, it's a thing and with all the cookouts, family gatherings, and dinner parties are not only bringing folks back in the kitchen, but having to use each other's knives.

The stories I am hearing involve visiting grown children making exclamations to their parents like "How can you use this knife!" to the passive aggressive house-guest in the middle of slicing, begins opening drawers and asking, "Is there another knife I can use?"

Sure, the house-guests leave and the families go back home, but then the holidays come around and the dull knives are still dull making you easy prey for the shaming.

There is an easy solution. Get your knives sharpened by Madam Cutler & Co. I have a variety of options (check out https://www.madamcutlerandco.com/). This summer I'm sharpening onsite at Killeen Crossroads Farm every Thursday from 3-6 pm (check website for summer hours). If your location or schedule makes it difficult for you, please email me (go to my website contact page) and we can work something out.

Remember there's hope. I'll leave you with a little story about a customer whose "snooty foodie" adult daughter used a Madame Cutler sharpened knife then hugged and thanked her mom. Makes you tear up, doesn't it?
