Remove Wild Parsnip from LaPlatte Headwaters Friday

Past event
Jul 22, 2022, 6 to 7:30 AM

Help remove wild (poison) parsnip, an invasive species that can cause skin blisters/burns and other problems, from the "Hidden Meadow" at the LaPlatte Headwaters Town Forest this Fri. morning! A member of the Monkton Conservation Commission, who uses the trails frequently, will be leading the charge to dig what we can before the plants go to seed (very soon!). We will have two extra "parsnip predator" shovels for lending (thanks to Lewis Creek Association), but feel free to bring your own shovel if you prefer. Wear gloves, clothing that covers the body, bug spray, and water. A hat with a net doesn't hurt to keep off mosquitoes and deer flies. Feel free to stop by if you're interested in learning more and seeing the process too (even if you aren't prepared to dig much). You can plan to come up to the meadow from either the Lewis Creek Rd. entrance or the Gilman Road entrance. You can download a trail map at https://www.hinesburg.org/trails-committee/files/trail-map-%E2%80%93-laplatte-headwaters-tow[...]ils
