I would like to welcome everyone to a meet-and-greet for Attorney General candidate, Rory Thibault. This Wednesday, we will be hosting current Washington County States Attorney Thibault from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at our offices at 125 Mountain Road.
Rory has been the lead prosecutor for Washington County for the past four years, and I have gotten to know him quite well in that role.
I know Rory from the vantage point of the defense side, but Rory has done an incredible job on the prosecution side. A prosecutor's job is a tough balance of enforcement and compassion, and Rory is a very rare example of someone who has found that balance for his office.
The Attorney General's office is far more important than most of us realize. Obviously, the Attorney General is the chief prosecutor for the state, but it is responsible for much, much more, including civil enforcement actions, vulnerable adult/child protection statutes, and serving as the law firm for thousands of state employees.
In the right hands, enforcement of these extensive mandates results in government that is transparent and accountable to the public. In the wrong hands, the vast power of the Attorney General's office ensures the opposite.
Regardless of party affiliation (Rory is a Democrat), I consider Rory to be a truly ideal candidate and we are fortunate to have him in this race. The ability to manage an enforcement agency is difficult, the ability to wield that power responsibly is scarce, and Rory has demonstrated an unquestionable ability to do both..
