Montpelier Senior Activity Center Community Room
Tanganyika. India. Britain. Uganda.
Born in Tanganyika, educated in India, and trained in Britain as a surgeon, Dr. Leo De Souza provides a sweeping tale of migration and racism as he recounts a 100 year-history that begins with his father's story in German East Africa and ends with his family fleeing Uganda for the United States, following Idi Amin's coup and campaign of terror.
Join Louella De Souza Anderson as she reads excerpts from her father's memoir, No Place For Me, a story chronicling the systemic racism and discrimination an Indian doctor experiences in 1950s East Africa, being that he is neither white in colonial times nor black in independent East Africa.
We will be in the Community Room at the Montpelier Senior Activity Center. Masking is strongly encouraged for this event venue. Books will be available for purchase for $20. Registration is limited to 25.
