The Old Town Cemetery on Washington Street Ext will get its annual clean-up this Saturday, July 16, 8-11 am and you're invited to help.
The cemetery is one of two maintained by the town. The Rotary Club of Middlebury is organizing this clean-up with assistance from volunteers of the Vermont Old Cemetery Association.
Some of the stones need to be set upright and other stones need to be cleaned.
If you're interested in helping, wear old clothes, bring a soft bristle brush, a pail for water, and plenty of elbow grease. We'll show you know to clean the stones.
Or…..…stop by to say hi and see what's going on….…or wave as you ride by!
One of the older cemeteries in town, this plot has memorials to a number of prominent families in Middlebury's history: Buttolphs, Carrs, Garlicks, Goodrichs, Hammonds, Kirbys, and Yales. Burials began in the late 1790s.
