As part of the Vermont Social Justice Festival, Chandler Music Hall and the Playhouse Theater in Randolph are proud to present the 2nd film in a series addressing Environmental Justice, especially as it relates to Indigenous Peoples and Water Rights. This series is particularly pertinent as we respond to Climate Change and seek a Just transition to a net zero world.

THERE'S SOMETHING IN THE WATER

The injustices and injuries caused by environmental racism in her home province, in this urgent documentary Indigenous and African Nova Scotian women fight to protect their communities, their land, and their futures.

Corporate interests ignore the impact of their pollution and altering the environment on indigenous and other people without any political power. The impact on wells and the health of indigenous people is well documented. The filing documents not only another example of Environmental Injustice, but also an example of how persistent nonviolent activism can impact even the most stubborn governmental lethargy.

SPECIAL GUEST
Joining us for the evening will be Earl Hatley (Cherokee) who was instrumental in the production of the first film in the series "Tar Creek". Upon moving to Quechee, Earl was invited to become a member of the Abenaki Nation of the Missisquoi here in Vermont. His grandparents were Canadian Abenaki. Earl has a great deal of insight to share about the continuing suffering and injustices experienced today.
