Hamlet Reading with Peter Gould

Past event
Jul 12, 2022, 6 to 8 PM

We are excited to welcome Peter Gould to the Simpson Library for an evening read through of HAMLET, the play that they will be doing at Get Thee To the Funnery this year. The event is free, and you will leave with your very own script. Here is what Peter says about it:

""Each summer I take a great Shakespeare play, and cut it enough to make a two-hour (or so) performance for our troupe. That's harder with Hamlet, which is naturally FOUR HOURS LONG! But we'll do it. The script is ready for this summer. We'll read it, discuss some of the finer points, make new discoveries, learn how to use our breath and focus, and take one stellar monologue and learn from it how to apply our unique Funnery VECTOR TRAINING to our reading style. Anyone from 12 to 102 with an interest in Shakespeare is invited. We'll all have a chance to read if we want to, and we'll get to the end---a hard thing to do when there is so much awesome stuff to talk about!!"

Hope you can join us! Please contact the library to register, by emailing jwsimpsonmemorial@gmail.com, or calling 802-586-9692.

Get Thee To the Funnery and the Simpson Library are working together on an exhibit for next summer at the Highland Center for the Arts that celebrates the longstanding summer Shakespeare tradition in this area, starting with Miss Jean and the East Hill Players in 1923. If you were connected to Miss Jean's summer theater in any way, please be in touch! We want to hear your stories.
