What Could the Future Route 7 Corridor Look Like? Come and See!

DRAFT Route 7 Form-Based Design Regulations presented at Planning Commission meeting, Thursday, June 12, 2014, 7pm at the Shelburne Town Offices.

Q: What's this project about?

A: We are working on changing the zoning rules on Route 7 to foster patterns of development that better integrate this area with the rest of the town. Re-designing the Route 7 Mixed Use (MU) district has been a Selectboard and Planning Commission priority since June 2010.

Q: If I attend Thursday's meeting, what can I expect?

You will see a detailed proposal for new aesthetic-based land use regulations that can help the town achieve long term economic vitality, create more local and independent businesses, and expand housing options within the town. The proposed plan and regulations are based on input from town residents gathered during three days of public meetings in February. You will see illustrated new regulations tailored to the varying conditions along the nearly 2.5 miles long corridor. For example, in sections close to the village the scale and pattern of development proposed logically relate and transition to buildings in the adjacent village. On the north end existing properties will be allowed to more intensively develop and expand, re-imagined as a village or small town main street to serve the surrounding neighborhoods.

Q: I'm too busy that night to come to the meeting, how do I watch the presentation later?

You can watch the proceedings of all Planning Commission meetings on VCAM, http://www.vermontcam.org/programs/shelburne_meetings/.
