The Brandon selectboard will meet in a special session at request of the town treasurer for a single-item agenda on Tuesday 5 July at 3PM at the town office (not the town hall). The sole matter under consideration is to set the tax rate for FY 2022-2023. Public comment is invited but there will be no Zoom option.
This is typically a brief meeting the board holds at its earliest opportunity after the State of Vermont advises the Towns of Vermont of the upcoming year's education tax rate. That has just come to us, and to facilitate timely mailing of tax bills we will apply the voter-approved town budget and appropriations spending (from the March Town Meeting) together with the state education rate to set the property tax rate.
For benefit of all: It is expected that the overall property tax rate will *decrease* 1.651% on homestead properties compared to last year's rate. For benefit of all for forward planning: This is a special achievement we do not anticipate being able to repeat next year in light of significant changes in the general economy (especially inflation) of which you are all aware.
Respectfully submitted,
Seth Hopkins, chair of selectboard
