On Saturday, July 9, from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m., Burlington youth are holding a bake sale and fundraiser in Calahan Park for Planned Parenthood and organizations that support reproductive health and choice. The event is being held in response to the recent Supreme Court ruling overturning Roe vs. Wade.
Organized by incoming Burlington High School first-year student Rose Howell (she/her), the event is being supported by members of Edmunds Middle School's You Be You and Youth Participatory Action Research (YPAR) groups, along with other students across the district.
"People with uteruses should have access to the reproductive healthcare they need," said Howell, "and the overturning of Rose vs. Wade directly attacks essential freedoms. I couldn't stand by and let this happen without doing something to help the people who are going to be impacted."
Visitors to the event will be able to stop by any time during the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. to purchase a variety of baked goods, make a donation, read powerful statements from elected officials, and share their thoughts about reproductive freedom. The event will take place rain or shine.
