Coming up Thursday on Central Vermont Community Radio - the power of Vermont's Constitution; what regeneration with equity and justice means.
9:00 - 10:00 am
"Equity is not a partisan ideology in Vermont. It's a foundational value, embedded in our constitution. No other state holds as strong a vision of the need for citizens to work together in a way that ensures fairness and equity." That's Worcester resident Allen Gilbert in a recent commentary on how Vermont's constitution makes possible the educational equity promoted by Act 60 and Act 62, and Vermont's leading role in recognizing marriage equality (even if it was through the separate-but-equal vehicle of civil unions at first). We'll talk about the power of the common benefits clause in the Vermont constitution to shape our lives. The conversation is based on the work he put into writing his book Equal is Equal, Fair is Fair.

Gwen Hallsmith lived in Central Vermont for decades, and she is continuing work she started here on a "Regeneration Revolution," which is based on principles like "The heart of regeneration is connection and relationship; we need to restore and repair our relationship with Mother Earth and all of humanity." It was this framework that led her to put forward a town meeting resolution in Cabot to give Abenaki access to the town forest for foraging. Changing culture is key to making the societal changes needed in the 21st century, she argues—and it's really hard to do! She welcomes listeners' ideas.
