Hello Everyone!
As some of you may know, the month of June is when the USA commemorates Pride Month, which is a time to both to honor and celebrate members of the LGBTQ+ community and to identify the work that still needs to be done within our country towards safety and acceptance for all.
As an agency dedicated to working with children and families, DCF is also aware that there is work to be done to ensure that children are in foster homes that not only accept them, but celebrate them, regardless of their sexual or gender identity. Additionally, we need to make sure that families from the LGBTQ+ community are welcomed to the foster care community with open arms.
With this in mind, we're hosting an event and hope that you will join us and perhaps invite a friend! The event is this Saturday, June 25th, from 9:00am-11:30am at the UU Church in Middlebury (2 Duane Court, Middlebury). We're hoping to recruit any families that identify as being members of the LGBTQ+ community (in either adult or child) as well as allies and would love it if those of you who are already foster parents could spread the word.
We will have some snacks on hand, I will talk a little bit about what foster care looks like and one of our current families will talk about what their experience of fostering a queer youth has been.
