Enosburgh Historical Society to host program on book binding
The Enosburgh Historical Society will host a program on book binding on Monday, June 27th at 7:30 pm. At the Enosburg Opera House, 123 Depot St, Enosburg Falls. The program is being presented by Malcolm Summers of the Chester Book Worm and Bindery in Chester. His company offers full bookbinding service and bookbinding courses.
After growing up in the UK, Malcolm Summers spent 25 years as an international foreign exchange trader and manager, much of that time living in New York and Chicago. Upon retirement in 1994 Malcolm returned to the UK and apprenticed under Alan Constance, a bookbinder with 50 years' experience and a five-person active bindery. Malcolm and his wife Ann then settled in Chester, Vermont, where for 25 years he has done bookbinding for universities, colleges, historical societies, booksellers, and private customers. Until the pandemic Ann ran a bookstore alongside Malcolm's studio. Besides helping repair books, Malcolm teaches bookbinding in his studio and, upon invitation, at colleges and elsewhere. His talk for the Enosburgh Historical Society will share his love for his craft and his wealth of experience on the skills and history of bookbinding.
