Sign up has begun for "Food for Thought."
Are you having a hard time meeting the food needs of your family with children over the summer? If so, please sign up for our FREE summer lunch program!
What is the program's goal? To provide nutritious lunch foods during summer vacation for children in Grand Isle County who qualify for free lunch.
How does it work? Each family receives food once a week to provide supplemental summer nutrition for at least 5 days at no cost.
What kind of food? A sample bin may include: peanut butter & jam (canned tuna or canned chicken), fruit, locally grown produce, cereal, milk and eggs. In addition, books for each child will be included for summer reading. These foods will supplement the lunches provided by local schools. Please be sure to also enroll in your local free school lunch program over the summer.
When does it start? Once enrolled, families can pick up their bin of food starting June
16th. For families who register, boxes will be available each Thursday evening throughout the summer at the Congregational Church of South Hero and at the Islands in the Sun in Alburgh.
No financial information is required.
If you are a Grand Isle County family and would like to participate in this program, please contact Margaret at the Congregational Church of South Hero at 372-4962 to sign up.
