The 1772 Abduction & Rescue of Remember Baker

Past event
Jun 18, 2022, 6 to 7:30 PM

A dramatization of the immediate aftermath of the violent capture & rescue of Arlington settler & Green Mountain Boy, Remember Baker, will take place in the form of a hastily called Town Meeting to address the event & the steps needed to rescue him.

During the pre-dawn abduction by colonial New Yorkers, Captain Baker & other family members were injured & he was carted off with the goal of having him stand trial in Albany. This attack was an attempt to oust the settlers of the New Hampshire land grants & represented an escalation of the conflict between the New Englanders & the Yorkers.

Directed by Robert Ebert, more than a dozen actors in period garb will portray known founding residents of Arlington & Bennington.

Admission is free. The event takes place Saturday, June 18th, from 6:00 - 7:30, at the Federated Church of East Arlington, 102 Ice Pond Rd. Beginning at 6:00, the public may enter & interact with living history re-enactors. The Town Meeting begins at 6:30. Following the performance, living history soldiers will fire an outdoor musket salute to honor Remember Baker & Vermont history.
