Attempt at the Guinness Book of World Records Longest Contra Dance Line. College of St. Joseph, Rutland, Vt.
This is a one-of-a-kind event to bring the longest contra dance line to Vermont where its roots are. We need 2210 dancers to bring the record back to New England where contra dancing started a couple hundred years ago. You don't need to know anything about contra dance--I promise anyone who can walk can do this. There is a huge amount of local support, and the weather looks like it will be great. It is bound to be the longest contra dance line in New England or the US, even if we don't quite make it all the way to 2210. And it is going to be FUN because two high-energy nationally sought-after bands will be playing: Giant Robot Dance and Perpertual e-Motion. The callers (teachers) are also icons of the national contra dance stage: Will Mentor and Adina Gordon. And after the FREE world record dance at three (in which all participants get a free shirt), there will be a gigundous potluck and a paid indoor evening contra dance until midnight.
