Community Science Inventory at the Barge Canal

Past event
Jun 12, 2022, 3 to 5 PM

When: Sunday, Jun 12, 3:00pm - 5:00pm

Please help the Friends of the Barge Canal discover who in the trophic web lives at the Barge Canal and to record it for a baseline inventory. We will be documenting the life of the land including mammals, reptiles, amphibians, flora, fungi, invertebrates, birds... Join us to get to know a part of your neighborhood that you may not have fully explored yet! All are welcome (from newbie naturalists, to amateurs to professionals). We will come together to learn, witness our wild kindred living in this fragile zone, and record what we can to share at the end of autumn 2022 as a bridge between our human and nonhuman urban wild neighborhoods in need of our care.

Come for one or all of the 2nd and 4th Sundays until November. Since the site is a Brownfield Site, there will be a simple waiver to fill out. The only precautions you will need to take are: to not wear the shoes you wear in the field in your home for 2 few days (just leave it on the porch to air out), to do a thorough tick check afterwards, and of course tend to your hydration, sun protection, and snack needs. Meet at the 'For Sale' sign at the Barge Canal on Pine Street.

Barge Canal Cleanup Continues June 12
When: Jun 12, 2022, 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM

On Sunday, June 12, Friends of the Barge Canal will be finishing the cleanup work at the Barge Canal that we started (magnificently!) on Green Up Day. Consider lending your energy to this basic, important work. We will begin at 9:00 AM, rain or shine, and continue until 2 PM. Come for an hour or the whole time. People's Kitchen will (once again) provide a delicious lunch for us at 12. Cover all your skin (poison ivy, ticks, mosquitoes). Bring water to drink, wear boots. We have work gloves and eye protection if you don't. If you drive, park at Dealer.com. Email me if you have questions.
