Join us at Minėmå Gallery (at the Studio Store) for a free evening of poetry by poet, visual artist, author and former, long-time Johnson resident, Kylie Gellatly! https://www.kyliegellatly.com She will be reading from her published book of poetry, The Fever Poems, as well as new works. Her books and prints will be available for purchase. Complementary tea and chocolate will be served. ALL are welcome!
We also invite you to stay and view our current show, THE BREAK UP, by painter and sonic artist, Renée Lauzon.
The work in this exhibition was produced during a particularly tumultuous time for the artist, and explores the ways in which she was forced to break up with attachments to ideas, futures, places, and people in order to move through the world again by improvising.
Improvisation is a core element to Lauzon's painting and sonic work. "Sonic information is translated into color and surface through deep and repeated listening.
Renée uses digital instruments, field recordings, and spoken word to create expansive sound landscapes that envelope the listener. In this process she's concerned with the birth and death of a single note, and the subtle and introspective activity of listening.
The sounds that arise in liminal spaces of attack and decay refocus attention on sensory perception and its messages we often miss out on in our daily lives.
Together, the paintings and sound works call and respond to each other in an interwoven aural and visual experience.
On view through 6/18.
