Nature Preserve Raising Funds for Trail Bridge

This summer, Green Mountain Conservancy (GMC) is raising money to build a much-needed trail bridge at Deer Run Nature Preserve. For hikers, particularly those with balance issues and disabilities, the new trail bridge will provide safe passage over an increasingly precarious stream crossing located a short distance from the trailhead. Once safely across, hikers will be able to continue on their adventure and enjoy the rest of Deer Run's magnificent and still-growing trail system.

The 913-acre Deer Run Nature Preserve spans the Dummerston, Newfane and Brookline areas of Windham County, Vermont, and is one of the few remaining unfragmented large parcels in Southern Vermont. It currently offers 4.8 miles of out and back trails, with a third trail to open later this fall 2022!

Over the past several months, GMC directors met with highly qualified and experienced trail bridge builders, and decided that a local firm, Tahawus Trails, is best suited to meet this need. Green Mountain hopes you'll support this effort to raise $15,000 to hire Tahawus to build the trail bridge this summer!

GMC is grateful to the Brattleboro Co-op for selecting us to be one of the beneficiaries of its Round-up for Change program for the month of June. Shoppers who generously opt to round-up at the Co-op check-out will be supporting the trail bridge building project. Work on the bridge is scheduled to begin in July.
