What is education and learning in today's world? How did it come about and what are the tools we need to change learning to be meaningful for the whole child… and adult? Those two questions are posed though this challenging program that features visionary educator, Kathleen Kesson, who has produced the "Community Schools Blueprint: Transforming the School/Community Partnership " This free program is held at BALE COMMONS, 35 South Windsor Street in SOUTH ROYALTON ON THURSDAY, JUNE 16 starting at 7 PM. As part of BALE's (Building A Local Economy's) series on localizing our economic and cultural future, this evening program opens with the film, "Schooling the World." Following the film, Kesson leads a discussion that weaves in the relevance of the film to Vermont and the urgency of creating a learning culture centered on the supporting the gifts and capacities of each human to create. "Community Schools Blueprint" offers a student-centered, progressive educational framework with an enhanced focus on equitable outcomes for all students. Community schools are a promising vehicle for transformative change. The Blueprint is aligned with programs and practices that Vermont's boldest educators and experimenters have long cultivated and with the values and purposes of many statewide grassroots movements for democracy, sustainability, and social, racial, and economic justice.
