Come learn about tickborne illnesses and their prevention. Bring your friends and family. We have an evening presentation at 7 on Wednesday, June 15, here at the Randolph Senior Center, to be given by Lyrica Stelle, MPH, Epidemiologist III, Vermont Dept of Health on prevention of diseases and the identification of ticks and tick bites.
There are 15 different species of ticks identified in VT, 6 are known to bite humans and can transmit diseases. Over 99% of all tickborne diseases reported to the VT Department of Health are caused by one tick: the black-legged tick.
Anaplasmosis is on the rise in VT, especially in the last 5 years. Most cases are among Vermonters who are over 50 years of age and about 30% of cases are hospitalized.
