Memorial Service for Rena Robinson

Past event
Jun 6, 2014

Rena Lucienne Robinson (Chainey) of Maple Corner, Calais, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by family, in the early morning hours of June 4, 2014 after a courageous two-and-a-half year battle with cancer. A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 6, at 11:00 at the Old West Church, Kents Corner, Calais. Please bring your stories and memories of Rena to share. A reception and potluck luncheon will follow at the Maple Corner Community Center. Sugar-on-snow will be provided! (Dishes may be dropped off at the Community Center prior to the service.)

Rena is survived by six children: Kim Robinson of Oakland, CA; Tim Robinson of Townsend; Kathy Robinson of East Barre; Tom Robinson of Marshfield; Kelly Robinson of Greensboro; and Karlyn Proulx of Calais. She was blessed with thirteen grandchildren. Rena was an avid gardener, cook, baker and an all-around great homemaker. She was also a mother to many various and sundry stray animals. When her children were all finally in school, she went to work at the Department of Motor Vehicles and in her “retirement years” she worked at Morse Farm where she thoroughly enjoyed meeting and chatting with visitors from all over the world.

Rena is buried on the family property and her memorial bench reads, “She laid hold on the word.” And she did. She had the spiritual support of very dear friends Marilyn Wemitt; Betty and the late Bill Boisvert; and Sandy and the late Gene Raymond. As her children wrote in her obituary, "Throughout her illness, Mom never complained once—about anything—and her faith never faltered. Many passersby stop to admire Mom’s lush flower gardens, her many humming bird feeders alive with the buzz, and the seas of Forget-Me-Nots that we will continue to mow around."

The family is in deep gratitude to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, to Karen Skalla and all of the nurses at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center in St. Johnsbury and to her many friends and long time neighbors in the community. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made directly to Central Vermont Home Health and Hospice, 600 Granger Road, Barre, VT 05641 or to the Mitzvah Fund, Worcester Veterinary Care, 10 Elmore Road, Worcester, VT 05682, a non-profit organization helping pet owners who are in financial need to keep their pets healthy and happy.
