Train to Jericho?

Few people may be aware that from 1877 until 1938, a busy railroad ran through Jericho from Essex to Underhill and beyond. Slight traces of the loop that took the train up the elevation from the Red Mill to the Elementary School remain, and there are many other places where the remnants of its path survive.

Join us on June 24 at 7pm for the Annual Meeting of the Jericho Center Preservation Association at which Jerry Fox will relate the sixty-year history of the Burlington and Lamoille railroad. This talk will be held in the Community Center (1847) in Jericho Center, which has had its own roles to play in Jericho history, from a church to a factory to a school to its current role as a community center.

The Jericho Center Preservation Association owns the Community Center and is dedicated to quality-of-life issues in Jericho Center and its environs. Over the years it has sponsored many projects such as the rock playground on the Green, the holiday lights, and musical concerts. The JCPA also supports the Jericho History Book Committee, which has recently published Volume III (1963-2013) of this series, copies of which will be on sale at the event.

The Chittenden County Historical Society is pleased to co-sponsor this interesting evening of history and conversation.

We request that people attending wear masks. MMCTV will be filming the event so that it can be seen later.
