Internationally known author, teacher, and speaker Charles Eisenstein will be at Yestermorrow Design/Build School this Friday, June 6, at 7pm, to kick off their Summer Lecture Series. He will present a lecture titled “That Which Wants to be Born: The New Design Paradigm.”

Eisenstein writes and speaks on multiple themes, including civilization, consciousness, money, community, education, gift culture, transition, and human cultural evolution. He is the author of The Ascent of Humanity and Sacred Economics, along with numerous essays in print and on-line. He graduated from Yale in Mathematics and Philosophy in 1989. His work in economics and social change features in several recent films, including Money and Life, and the short films The Revolution Is Love and Sacred Economics.

His talk on Friday will address these greater themes through the lens of design. He writes:

Our civilization is transitioning from a narrative of conquering nature to one of interdependency with a living planet. Part of this is a new (and ancient) paradigm of design, in which the designer seeks not to impose design on an inert reality "out there," but to serve and cooperate with an organic process of cocreation. This talk will explore the big-picture shift that is changing basic concepts of design and construction, illuminating the role of oft-neglected parts of the design process: the listening, the visioning, the waiting, the latency, the unknowing, the pauses, the crisis, the epiphany, and the creative thrust.

The lecture is open to the public, and admission is by donation. Call 496-5545 for more information.
