Montpelier Parklet Opening to Kick Off First Summer Art Walk

Montpelier Alive is pleased to announce our first summer Montpelier Art Walk on Friday, June 6. The evening will kick-off with a ribbon cutting ceremony at Montpelier’s new Parklet on the Rialto Bridge on State Street. At 5:00 pm Mayor John Hollar and Ward Joyce from Vermont Tech, a Professor of Architecture who spearheaded the project that was designed by his students, will say a few words and officially open the Parklet to our community. Paul Carnahan, Chair of Montpelier Alive’s Design Committee, will add a few words about our first Parklet in the State. Lively music will be provided by Patti Casey and Colin McCaffrey.

After the Parklet opening, the public is invited to join us in a festive evening enjoying the visual arts. Eighteen stores and restaurants will act as galleries in downtown historic Montpelier showcasing Central Vermont artistic talent. Locations include Capitol Grounds, North Branch Café, Vermont Arts Council, and Global Gifts, among others.

Art Walk guide books can be found now in many of our downtown stores. Thanks to our generous sponsors Hunger Mountain Coop, the Drawing Board and VFCA, this is a free event for our community. "Art Walk is a community-building event, connecting Vermont artists, locals, and businesses in what can feel like a town-wide party. It's a fabulous way to experience the uniqueness of Montpelier!" says Yvonne Babb, owner of Global Gifts, who has been instrumental in organizing this event.
