The Monkton Museum & Historical Society sends a warm remembrance to all the soldiers and their families who gave the ultimate sacrifice defending our freedom. Monkton has a long history of sending their men and women to serve in the armed forces. The former Grange in the Boro has a town memorial for those we should remember on this Memorial Day. Sprinkled throughout our cemeteries in our community are the graves of many of these valiant soldiers. We would like to invite you on this somber day to explore the Civil War soldiers from Monkton.
Go to our website, monktonhistory.org, and search under the heading Publications. Scroll through the names and learn about their individual stories. We are always looking for new artifacts, documents and diaries from any of our ancestral veterans. We appreciate any donations that we will use to educate and teach others. We have been working to create a museum and look forward to including any such memorabilia. As we reflect on what today means, may we always look to the past to help us in the present and inspire us for the future. If you are interested in being a part of the MM&HS, we would love to have you join! Please email monktonmhs@gmail.com and we look forward to meeting you.
Sincerely,
Kristen B. Farrell
