Relocalizing VT, May 26: a Student-Powered Musical

Past event
May 26, 2022, 9 to 10:30 AM

Coming up Thursday on Central Vermont Community Radio - unusual venues and why they're important; Cabot high schoolers are researching, writing, producing, and publicizing a time-travel musical to eras many listeners will remember.

9:00 - 10:00 am
It's been easy over the last couple years to forget the joys and value of coming together physically, but with more and more in-person events happening, we'll look at the importance of appealing venues. In Marshfield, the Onion River Campground encourages Vermonters and travelers to use the grounds free of charge for swimming, trails, and general enjoyment until 6pm from May to October, and this summer they have planned special, fun activities. And the Capital City Grange in Berlin provides space for cultural renters (dance, singing, instrumental rehearsals) family uses (birthday/anniversary/retirement/memorial events), and civic uses--meetings, trainings, etc. What does it take for private organizations to provide spaces for the public?

Vermont high school plays and musicals provide entertainment at a level that often surprises the non-parents who attend. In Cabot this year, the high school students are going above and beyond the norm to write, produce, score, and publicize their own time-travel musical, Visions of Yesterday. We'll talk with two students who have written the script, Jesse Mudgett and Declan O'Connor, and actor Cameryn Hoffman about the process of producing a musical about time travel to eras that are only history for the students but are historical memories from the 70s and 80s for many listeners.
