Historic Plaster Restoration Workshop
The Brookfield Historical Society is pleased to announce a two-day workshop on historical plaster preservation led by Sally Fishburn of S.A.Fishburn, Inc, at the 1835 Marvin Newton House (1133 Ridge Road) in Brookfield, VT.
The program will begin with a history of the types and uses of plaster in historic buildings. The remaining time will be hands-on in one bedroom of the Marvin Newton House, working through steps of the plaster preservation process, from reattachment of plaster to lathe with acrylic adhesives to filling missing sections of plaster. The bedroom was recently discovered to have been previously repaired with large sections of early drywall and later patching compounds. The pros and cons of replacing or working with those areas will also be discussed.
Come dressed to try the processes out.
The workshop will run Saturday and Sunday, June 11-12, from 9-12, and is limited to 8 participants. Fee, paid in advance: $85 .
To register please email curator@bhsvt.org by June 4th. Registrations will be refunded if the minimum of 5 participants is not met.
Bring your own drinking water and snack or bag lunch.
