Learn Fundamentals of Woodworking at HatchSpace

Past event
May 20, 6 PM to 5 PM, May 22, 2022

This introductory course is designed to give beginner students an overview of the safe use of some of the most common machines and hand tools used in woodworking. We'll cover use of the planer, jointer, table saw, miter saw, band-saw, drill press, and additional machines as time allows. The properties of wood and techniques for safe machine operation will be covered thoroughly

Students will build and take home a three-legged stool. We will explore individual design by shaping and texturing wood surfaces.

Come to HatchSpace and learn from RISD graduate and studio furniture maker Martin Simpson. The skills taught in this basic class will provide a foundation for more advanced techniques used in some of Martin's studio work. Have some fun while learning something new.
