A year ago, I heard that the Varnum needed help and I stepped up to say 'Yes, I can help."
"Libraries store the energy that fuels the imagination. They open up windows to the world and inspire us to explore and achieve, and contribute to improving our quality of life."
Sidney Sheldon (1917-2007. American writer and producer)
As a young child growing up in Vermont, my small-town library was a place of inspiration. Between the pages of picture books my imagination grew. When I learned to read my insatiable curiosity found new books, new ideas and new ways of thinking in books that filled my heart and my soul.
As a former educator, I substituted half a year in an elementary library and worked for several years at a large bookstore. I even had a local southern VT radio show called 'Books, Yarns & Tales' for 2 ½ years which stopped when I moved here.
My love of books and stories has increase as a writer, an author and now as a TV show called 'Books, Yarns & Tails', where I talk about: 'Written Words, Inspired Stories and the Animals & Nature that Share our Lives'.
The pandemic/lockdown had us shut off from one another, facing loss of freedom as well as loss of loved ones. This past year has still been hard for many of our fellow residence.
Serving on the Crescendo Club for the betterment of the Varnum Memorial Library has not always been easy, yet it has been rewarding. I am proud of the club for working on the Varnum's foundation, from the rooftop to the floors inside, promoting new and old programs for young families to seniors and restarting fundraising events with a Read Athon for children.
What talent do you have to offer? What wisdom can you share?
The Varnum Memorial Library welcomes people from all walks of life and all ages through its yellow door.
We of the Crescendo Club welcome you to come to the Annal meeting. Be part of the positive change that our town and library deserve.
