In honor of Menstrual Hygiene Day, join Alliance for Community Transformations (ACT) and Planned Parenthood of Northern New England for a free screening of "Pandora's Box: Lifting the Lid on Menstruation," a film that explores menstrual inequity and period poverty around the world.
The screening will be held at Second Congregational Church UCC, 115 Hillside St., Bennington. This event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 6:30, and the screening will begin at 7 PM. Please register in advance here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/pandoras-box-film-screening-tickets-340098111607
Before the film, you will have an opportunity to learn more about local and statewide efforts to increase access to menstrual products for all, including the Take Care Project, an initiative to expand youth access to free menstrual products and personal care items in the Bennington community. Thanks to our sponsors at Diva International, we will have a limited amount of free DivaCups for attendees.
We will also be collecting menstrual products for local youth in need. Bring an unopened box of tampons or pads to contribute! Can't make it but still want to get involved? Contact coordinator@actbennington.org.
ABOUT THE FILM
Pandora's Box unmasks the global pandemic of menstrual inequity and period poverty. From Maasai villages, to Mumbai and on to London, we meet young women who are forced to stay at home from school, or even drop out, merely because they don't have access to menstrual supplies. We meet formerly incarcerated women in the U.S. prison system who talk about their struggles to menstruate safely while deprived of basic human hygiene. One of them asks: "Isn't the ability to menstruate with dignity a basic human right?" Watch the trailer here: https://www.pandorasboxthefilm.com/trailer
