On May 4th, the Castleton-Hubbardton ad hoc committee on the future of CVS met for the third time. Draft minutes of that meeting can be found on the Town of Castleton's web site.
In addition to the four committee members, 12 other citizens attended the meeting. Some highlights included contributions by Tearsa Brannock, who currently runs childcare programs in two facilities in the region and might be interested in moving those to a portion of the CVS building. Tearsa believes she would need six to eight classrooms and access to the kitchen in order to serve up to 70 children. Pat Schroeder presented a handout that described how CVS might be shared by the Recreation Department, Boys and Girls Club of Rutland County, and those who want to use the facility for "community center" programming. Pat's handout also suggested how some community center activities might generate revenue.
The ad hoc committee's next meeting will be held at the CVS school starting at 6:00 pm on May 19. Prior to that, at 5:30, the school will be open for self-guided tours.
The agenda will include a discussion with commercial realtor Ray Ault, who will share with the committee his sense of how marketable the building and grounds might be if the two towns were to decide either to sell it or to lease it. The committee will review and consider recommending to the two towns' select boards a draft MOU regarding shared ownership, decision making, and management of CVS. Joe Mark will also report on what he has learned about the ownership of the Godnick Adult Center in Rutland and the Young At Heart Senior Center in Poultney and how these two facilities are run and, financed.
Join us at 5:30 pm next Thursday if you can.
